If you have done bit of dressmaking before you started your quilting journey then you might have dreamt of combining the two and making a quilted jacket. In this class we will make a toile to make the garment fit your unique curves. We will quilt the layers, cut out the pattern pieces and I will guide you through few different ways to neaten the seams. We will only have time to make the body warmer, but I will show you how to add sleeves at home if you wish to.

You will need your own sewing pattern in your size. You can choose whichever one you like, but here are some suggestions:

Butterick 6718 or 6602 or 6860 or 6795
Vogue 1712
Simplicity 9553 or 9184 or 8844

The pattern can have darts and more seams than just the side seams but for a first project I would recommend not using a pattern that is too complicated with lapels and collars.

Fabric requirement as per the pattern - you will need the same amount of top fabric, wadding and backing.

Top fabric can be anything woven - preferably cotton, batik - we don’t want to make it too thick. I would recommend no stripes or directional designs - just to make our lives easier on the day.

Wadding - 100% cotton for the ease of washing.

Lining - you can use cotton but it’s easier for wearing if you have proper lining which is usually polyester. You will need half a meter extra of the lining for the binding of the seams.

Binding -  half a meter - you can use the same fabric for the binding as the body of the jacket or use something contrasting.

*Calico for toile - same amount as the pattern requirement.

* Threads for quilting - matching your lining and either matching or contrasting your top fabric - depending on the effect you'd like to achieve. (*see below)

* Domestic sewing machine for the construction of the garment.

* Marking tools - chalk or water erasable pen  (*see below)

On the first day we will start by loading the lining, wadding and top fabric onto the long arm machine and quilting it. To have some breaks we will then cut out the toile from our pattern and I’ll help you achieve the perfect fit.

The second day we will use the toile to cut out the garment pieces out of our quilted fabric, join them together and learn a couple of different binding techniques.

If you have any questions about what to bring, please contact me on info@oliven.co.uk

The total cost for this event is £250.

* Lunches and refreshment on course days.

* Marking tools - chalk or water erasable pen if you don't have your own.

* One person per machine for longarm machine sessions.

* Glide thread in a variety of colours for the quilting. Bobbin thread in the machines will be grey, black or white. If you need a different colour to match please bring bobbins so that you can wind your own on our bobbinwinder or bring prewounds to match your top thread.

Stitching is on a variety of longarm machines. Please indicate which machine you would prefer. However, being allocated to a specific machine cannot be guaranteed.

Accommodation and places to stay are shown on the confirmation email or visit our website page and scroll down for accommodation.

For terms and conditions please visit our Terms and Conditions webpage.  Please check with us prior to booking if you have special dietary requirements as not all requirements may be catered for.

This event is for Handi Quilter Owners Only.  One of the reasons for purchasing from Pinhole Quilting is that we are Europe's leading longarm specialists and we offer an ongoing education programme with leading national and international quilt teachers.

We will have all machines in the Handi Quilter range at the Ambassador Event, but we cannot guarantee you will be able to use the same type of machine that you have. For hands-on sessions, wherever possible we will try to match the machine you use to the one that you own.

We are delighted to once again present a premium training opportunity for our customers!
