Did you know you can do a buttonhole / blanket stitch with your longarm machine?
This is a great technique for making gifts as you are going to do the applique and quilting all in one – create a traditional applique look but doing it all free motion! We will create a small piece ready for you to use as a bag or quilt block or mug rug etc.
We will do:
● Seven different free motion applique stitches including blanket stitch and zig-zag
● Add background quilting as well as inside applique quilting
● Learn to do manual couching of yarns too thin for the couching feet
The second day will focus on how to quilt that special piece of fabric in your stash that you don’t want to cut up!
This class is a fantastic way to practice your free motion quilting without having to worry about a design or patchwork. No piecing, no applique, no drawing, no calculations, just stitching fun! Add a whole new layer of texture and dimension to an already beautiful printed fabric.
In the final session you’ll discuss how to quilt your quilt. Bring along your quilt tops for discussion. Drawing on Telene's skills and knowledge you’re sure to learn a lot in this session. We'll select as many as we can in the session in the final afternoon.
The total cost for this event is £400.
* All teaching, class materials and fabric (bring along your own "Just Quilt It" fabric - we'll provide guidance on suitable fabric.)
* Lunches and refreshment on course days
* One person per machine for machine sessions
Stitching is on a variety of machines. Please indicate which machine you would prefer. However, being allocated to a specific machine cannot be guaranteed.

This event is for Handi Quilter Owners Only. One of the reasons for purchasing from Pinhole Quilting is that we are Europe's leading longarm specialists and we offer an ongoing education programme with leading national and international quilt teachers.
The program in more detail will comprise:
We will look at:
● First drawing then stitching
● Telene’s technique of understanding the feather and frond shape
● The two stitching methods (full frond and bump-bump-back)
● Adding boundaries to extend feathers
● Splitting the vein and options of stitching vein or just drawing vein
● Best feather exercise for homework
We’ll continue in the afternoon with Grid Fills. Do you find that you struggle to achieve an even fill? Find out what can be achieved with a basic stencilled grid. Students will explore various design options based on a grid as guidance to achieve wonderful block patterns and fill designs.
On Day 2 we’ll take the techniques you learnt on Day 1 and with some simple design techniques you’ll quilt a fat quarter size sample.
In the afternoon we’ll cover Inktense watercolour pencils techniques to Inktense that sample.
Visit the Derwent website to find out more about Inktense watercolour pencils. If you have Inktense pencils please bring them with you. We will provide a selection for you to use otherwise.
The process for booking will be first come first served
