Quilt Your Own Quilt on a Longarm!

Monday 23rd June 2025 9am - 4:30pm

We are opening our showroom to people who would like to quilt their quilts on a longarm. You bring your own quilt ready to be quilted (subject to size limits) and have a fun day learning a new skill.

This is the perfect opportunity to try out longarm quilting and is suitable for complete beginners or for those with some experience as training will be given and help will be available throughout the day.

The day includes sole use of one of our longarm machines, selection of threads, lunch and training

All Quilts on moveable machines will be quilted using pantographs with edge to edge designs. A selection of designs will be available. Pantographs are the easiest way for complete beginners to have a go at longarm quilting. You can choose a design from our selection. The pantograph is a printed design on a long roll of paper which is attached to the table at the rear of the frame. A laser light is used to hand-guide the machine tracing the design using handlebars at the rear of the machine. The design is stitched on your quilt as you trace! You then move on to the next line (we'll show you how) and start again, moving down the quilt one row at a time.

For stand-up movable longarm machines you will

  • have instruction and practice using an edge to edge pantograph, quilting from the back of the machine.
  • select your thread colour to match your quilt from our range of Glide threads (you will have the option to purchase the remainder of the spool at the end of the day if you wish
  • load your quilt top, wadding and backing onto the frame.
  • quilt your quilt using your selected design.
  • advance your quilt.

For sit-down stationary longarm machines you will

  • need to baste your quilt prior to arrival, preferably with spray adhesive such as 505.
  • be provided with a practice quilt to learn the free motion technique and controls of the machine
  • select your thread colour to match your quilt from our range of Glide threads (you will have the option to purchase the remainder of the spool)
  • be able to quilt a quilt up to 60" by 60".
  • feel the freedom of the 16", 18" or 20" longarm space. Machines will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.

When booking you can select from

  • stand-up movable longarm on an 8ft frame - max quilt size is 76" by 76"  - £180
  • stand-up movable longarm on a 6ft frame - max quilt size is 42" by 60" - £130
  • sit-down stationary longarm machine - max quilt size 60" by 60" - £100

For all machines, backing and wadding needs to be 2" bigger than quilt top all round eg 80" x 80" for 76" x 76" finished. Squared. Not polycotton or tight sheeting.  Please contact us to discuss if you are not sure.

Wadding is available. Pricing on request.

A selection of hot and cold drinks will be available. Lunch will be provided (please indicate whether you are vegetarian or have any dietary requirements)

Please note that places are limited, so please do not book multiple days.
